A Reggio Emilia-inspired Cooperative Preschool
Community Nursery School is a cooperative preschool located in Lexington, MA, with a developmental and constructivist approach to early education.
Children are seen as unique and competent individuals who come to school to share and explore their world through authentic interactions, intentional provocations, and ongoing investigations.
Supported by warm, inviting teachers and parent collaborators, children are empowered to inquire, explore, and develop social and school skills essential to future academic and social success.
Some of the overarching themes that have carried CNS for over seventy-five years include a deep respect for children and their families and the importance of building community.
We gain inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which is renown for collaborative and aesthetically beautiful learning environments where values are strengthened through community dialogue and a commitment to continued growth on the part of all members. We consider the Reggio philosophy to be a beacon, inspiring us with a deep sense of possibility for the growth of our own school and community.
The concept of an inclusive and vibrant community is central to our school's culture. At CNS, everyone is valued. Everyone is welcome.
"As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has - or ever will have - something inside that is unique to all time. It's our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression." [Fred Rogers]
